Saturday - Marquee 2
13.00pm - Jones/O’Connors Quartet
The Jones O'Connor Group use their hands and feet to manipulate or "play" instruments, which in turn creates "sounds" audible to the human ear. These "sounds" are then graded and labelled by the groups members, and reassembled into "music". This process is then demonstrated to the public, who receive or "hear" the results.
15.00pm - Quiver
Quiver is a 6 piece Latin Jazz band based in Birmingham. Casey Greene first conceived of the idea in Sydney 1995 and created the Australian band that went on to perform on the Sydney scene. Now living in the UK, Casey assembled his new band in 2005. Casey Greene’s original compositions are fresh and inspiring, reflecting his experience in performing the music of Cuba, Brazil, Africa, Australia, Europe and the US.
17.00pm - Splinter
A newly formed piano based trio of Royal Welsh college students, these guys have an energetic and original approach to the trio format. Willing to take risks and innovate, they are invigorating in the best of jazz tradition.
19.00pm - Steve Fishwick/Osian Roberts Quintet
For those with a liking for the classic Blue Note recordings of the fifties and sixties, this one is for you. Most of the tunes are originals, but they are wonderfully faithful to the feel and quality. The Blue Note stuff has frequently been revived by a series of DJs and appeals to much younger audiences than those who remember the music when it was new. Cardiff born Osian co-leads this band of superb musicians.
21.00pm - Gareth Roberts Band
The Gareth Roberts Quintet have been playing together for many years and have built up a large following in and around Cardiff with their own, unique, exciting brand of Jazz. All of the quintet are acclaimed bandleaders in their own right but they recently got together under the leadership of Gareth to record their long-awaited debut album “The Attack of the Killer Penguins” which was launched on the 1st of June 2006.
