Saturday - Marquee 1
12.15pm - Torfaen Youth Band
Under the leadership of Ceri Rees these youngsters blaze their way through classic big band tunes.
2.15pm - Capital City Jazz Orchestra
Formed a year or so ago by the very best local big band players and already getting major gigs at St David’s Hall and Brecon, they were one of last year’s highlights. Monthly (and crowded) gigs at Dempsey’s have honed the band into great form as a class big band.
4.30pm - Dick Roberts
An all too rare jazz performance for one of Wales’s outstanding players, pianist Dick Roberts brings a class quartet featuring saxophonist Lee Goodall with Chris and Mark O’Connor on bass and drums. Expect classics from the modern jazz song book impeccably performed.
6.45pm - Grand Union Orchestra
This big ensemble was exhilarating last year, with a panoramic mixture of music from around the world and history but firmly based in contemporary jazz. At times angry, sad, triumphant and ecstatic, the writing was of the highest order, as was the playing. A remarkably little known outfit considering it’s 25 years history and considering that among it’s players are Claude Deppa, Byron Wallen, Chris Bisco, Tony Kofi, Brian Adams and players of many nationalities.

9.00pm - Stan Tracey Big Band
Undoubtedly among the finest pianists, band leaders and writer/arrangers in the jazz world, ever, Stan brings his big band to the park. Stan’s been at the top of the jazz heap for decades now and is constantly prolific, inventive and thrilling. He can, of course, command the services of the highest quality players, including the likes of Guy Barker, Mark Nightingale, Nigel Hitchcock, Mornington Lockett, Alan Barnes, Simon Allen, Andy Cleyndert and Clark Tracey.
