7.00pm - Greater Gwent Youth Band

A great success last year, and at Brecon, this band would put many senior bands to shame, with immaculate playing and some unusual material, a fitting start to the festival. 

 

Ubizo9.00pm - Ubizo

Ubizo is xhosa word meaning ‘the call’ which reflects the nature of the music. Saxophonist Alan Skidmore has long had links with South Africa and this band is the result of his collaboration with Amopondo, Nelson Mandela’s favourite drum band. They’re a really exciting group in their own right, but mix together with top jazz players, light the touch paper and enjoy the explosion.
