Dick Hamer/Fraser Allibone Quintet
Based in South Wales, Dick Hamer has been an active saxophonist since the mid 80's, after graduating from Leeds College of Music. He has worked alongside some major names, including Stan Tracey, Pete King, Bobby Shew, Scott Hamilton, and on the non jazz side, everything from Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to the BBC national orchestra of Wales. A busy teacher, arranger and composer- several of his pieces have been included on the Trinity Guildhall exam syllabus.
Fraser has been playing the South Wales Jazz scene for many years, performing at Jazz Festivals and popular venues. A first class graduate on the Jazz course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, he studied under famed music educator Keith Tippett, and Jazz composer and musician Paula Gardiner.
Fraser has worked with Alan Barnes, Steve Waterman, Keith Tippett, Oleg Kyriev, Janusc Carmello and Willie garnett, and currently leads a new Jazz quartet, 'Jazz Friques', which includes pianist Richard West.
A lover of Hard Bop and Modal Jazz styles, Fraser's saxophone playing is passionate, vital and enthusiastic.
Charles Sheinman is the nephew of an authentic master African drummer. He hails from the East Midlands where he works both live and in the studio with many Jazz ensembles. Charles is a wonderful, skilled and inventive musician who brings great enthusiasm and spontaneity to every performance.
A recent graduate on piano in the north of England, Richard West is a new and very welcome addition to the Jazz family here in South Wales. Richard is a young, exciting and totally innovative player, who displays a maturity beyond his years, and who brings a fresh interpretation to every Jazz composition and standard he plays.
Greg Cordez is a Bristol based double bassist who is used both in the Popular and Jazz idioms. He is currently undertaking a Master's degree in Jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, and is a welcome new Jazz face on the scene here. Greg is a mature, thoroughly proficient and inspiring double bassist, and will be a joy for all to experience.
The quintet will be playing a selection of Dick's masterful arrangements of Jazz's best compositions.
